Have you been to an ENT? You may have allergies that if left unchecked can develop over and over into sinus infections. That happened to me.

Do you smoke? Stopping can help... or staying away from smoky places can cut down on irritations.

If you are taking antihistamines (anything OTC or RX - Benedryl, Claritin, Allegra, Fexofenadine... etc) I would quit them immediately if you have a sinus infection. They can actually dry up the infection and make it last a LOT longer.

Stay HYDRATED. Lots of water... keep the caffeine at a minimum (it can dry you out as well) Make yourself drink tons of water and fluids... anything without sugar is best.

Don't use nasal decongestants. You only should use those for like 3 days max... or you could get rebound congestion. Try plain saline nose spray (Ayr makes a good one and the store brands are great as well... but CHECK... just plain saline!!) You can use it continuously with no problems. It can actually thin and loosen the congestion and make it easier to breathe... those nose strips work well for some people at night.

I also used hot showers and warm compresses to loosen congestion...

I hate taking antibiotics... but there are plenty of natural ways to get rid of the infection.... hopefully something I've mentioned will help.

You're coming down with a sinus infection. You caught it early. To get rid of the symptoms, put 2 tablespoons of salt into 1/2 glass of water. Use a teaspoonfull and inhale this into each nostril. It will sting some but the infection will be stopped. To keep from getting any more, take a teaspoon of local honey each morning. It will help your body develop imunities to the airborne irritants that are in your area. You probably blew your nose too hard and created cuts or cracks inside the sinus cavities that were just waiting to become infected. Don't get hooked on nasal decongestants. They will dry up everything up there but you will not be able to get the stuff out. After a while, you'll be at the hospital getting them cleaned out with a water spray. Not fun. Been there, done that. The honey will help you from getting cold and flu symtoms as well. Natural cures and preventitives are the best for your body in the long run. No side affects, no medical bills and no long term damage to your body.

There has been lots of research in the last several years with a huge proliferation of sinus infections resistant to antibiotics.

I had this problem and did much research.

You need to see a specialist, (s)he might prescribe a new very powerful antibiotic, a nasal flush, and a way to keep your upper respiratory system in good shape. I did not like some stuff, so I had to take the super antibiotics for 30 DAYS and the nasal flush every other day and cucumbers with the Japanese horseradish- Wassabi twice a day.

I still have to use a sinus flush every week . but it pretty much worked. Its been 3 years and I am still OK

so see a specialist.

Perhaps you need to see another physician. If you are having chronic infections, either you are not being treated with the correct antibiotics or you have some kind of resistant strain. You may need a culture and sensitivity done.

Another possibility is that your sinus passages are super narrow and cannot drain properly. Surgery can correct this problem.

Be insistent that you do not want to just treat your current infection, insist that you want to get to the bottom of what is causing so many infections and insist tests get done. If he won't get to the bottom of the cause, find a doctor who will.

You need a new Dr. I always have sinus issues... it comes from certain environmental circumstances from my youth.

Z-packs are common for sinus infections lately. They are also a pretty quick treatment. Chances are that if you have been treated for a sinus infection and it doesn't go away then you don't have one. There may be something else wrong. Possibly allergies or maybe your sinuses need to be drained. (Somehow I think they just widen the entry to your sinus cavities. I don't think it's painful. It's about the same as stretching the opening of a balloon to let more water out quicker I guess.

Other things to try are Mucinex and nasal flush kits. Your pharmacist can help you here. Drink LOTS of water and add vitamin c to your diet.

The first thing you need to do is get rid of all the toxic cleaning products in your home and laundry. Start taking a good multivitamin and a good antioxidant supplement daily to boost your immune system so you don't get more sinus infections. Since these are chronic I would consider seeing and ENT doc to get to the bottom of your problem. You may need long term antibiotics to totally clear the infection. See an ENT doc and find out what is going on.

You need to see an ENT to be sure you have a sinus infection. If you do, some are hard to get rid of without long term (a few weeks) of strong antibiotics .After all, it is warm and moist in your sinus cavities- perfect for infection to thrive. A specialist can do a proper diagnosis and start appropriate treatment.
