Every time I take a drink of anything it feels like there is some discomfort on the way down near my chest. Any clue what this could be?

It is just bronchitis. Go to a Doc and take some meds. Have complete rest. Don't smoke, don't drink anything cold. Lie down under a quilt and rest.

Sounds like bronchitis. Bronchitis can cause your throat to hurt from the top of the esophagus all the way down to the bottom of it, and into the airways. Go to your doctor so you can get a correct diagnosis on this. Good luck, feel better soon!
If you smoke, STOP! This will cause it to stay sore, and not heal for a very long time. This is possibly the worse thing you could do for this condition.

FYI: Your throat's end is far from your chest.

It sounds like you have GERD. Gastrointestinal Reflux Disease, commonly known as Acid Reflux.
