My brother just had heart surgery so as you can imagine, he's been home for a long time. But he's been sitting on the couch almost 95% of the time. He told me he has been itching a lot. Do you know if he could have hives from sitting on the couch too long. I'm mostly talking to doctors!

probably not hives, unless he is allergic to the couch material, or the blanket. if he has been on the couch a lot, it could be dust mites, etc that have been in the couch. vacuum the couch, inside and out, and see if he feels better. febreeze works to remove odors as well. if he sees red welts or skin irritation, he should call the doctor. i don't know what the surgery was for, but you don't want him to have an infection from scratching.

hope he feels better!

If he really has hives (and not just itching) the cause will be difficult to find, but start tracking everything he has eaten and come in contact with for the 12 hours before the hives show up. At one time I was overrun with yeast from antibiotics - it was the yeast that was giving me hives. He may have the same problem, if he has been on antibiotics for a long time.
It may just be dry skin or the need to exfoliate his skin with a dry brush which you can get from health food store.

It's called bedsores. If it's medically ok for him to do so, he should turn in bed often and bathe everyday. You can look up more info on bedsores online

probably not hives....but very possibly lack of circulation which can lead to skin breakdown and pressure sores.
