There's a new Thai resturant that opened near my house and I was wondering if someone could suggest to me good dishes I could try there. I don't know all the types of foods they use in Thai cooking, but I don't like things really spicy, and I love pasta. Thank you!

If you love pasta then try 'Pad Thai" there are variations like Chicken Pad Thai or Shrimp Pad Thai.

Soups and curries are popular Thai dishes.

I love Tom Yum Goong, a hot and sour soup made with prawns or shrimp. It is wonderful.
Thai chefs will make it milder for you if you ask.

Tom Kha Gai which is soup with chicken, coconut milk, lemongrass and mild chilis. It is mmmmm- good.

Thai soups always have an exotic and complex blend of flavors and are a meal in themselves. I think they are marvelous. The soups with a spring roll make a very nice lunch.

Try the different Thai curry dishes too.

Wash everything down with a cold Singha.

Hi

Thai food is typically very spicy (as in chilli spicy) and you may need to stick to the milder dishes. Pad Thai is a good noodle dish and you can sometimes get a lovely chicken dish made with sweet basil and kafir lime leaves with thai eggplants and green beans.

I would strongly recommend asking the people at the Thai restaurant what they would recommend - I'm sure they would be very happy to help, and in my experience the people who work in Thai restaurants are usually Thai, and Thai people are usually very lovely, friendly and kind.

Good luck!

Keep in mind that some people think that hot=good. For excellent mild flavors try Masaman or Panang curried meats, or as some have suggested Pad Thai. There are many excellent mild seafood dishes as well. There are also many mild noodle dishes besides Pad Thai, such as Pad Su Wee or glass noodle dishes. Also try the Basil rolls and don't forget sticky rice with mango for dessert

1. Pad Thai - I always ask for extra vegetables, regardless of the inclusion of tofu, chicken or shrimp (there is nothing worse than trying to eat a mound of sticky noodles)!
2. Spicy Basil with -- anything!
3. Golden Triangles (tofu fried) and spring rolls
4. Tom Yum Soup - very good
5. Thai iced tea/coffeee
6. Curries are also great: best to experiment at lunch times to figure if you like, red curry, green curry or yellow curry.
If they have homestyle dishes - try all the noodle dishes.

Bon apetit!

You could order Pad Kee Mao mild. It is my favorite of any Thai dishes. I have eaten Thai super often, and I have come to want to order only Pad Kee Mao. It is a dish of flat thick, very satisfying noodles, egg, basil, carrots, baby corn, and snow peas, and often a kind of meat like chicken, beef, or shrimp or tofu(I'm a vegetarian, so I always order tofu). I am always very happy from the moment I take the first bite to long after I finish it.

my usual thai meal consists of:

- soup: tom yum goong (a bit spicy, but ask your server to make it milder)
- pasta: shrimp/chicken pad thai (my yardstick to know how good a thai restaurant is)
- drink: thai iced tea

so maybe you could start with that meal?
