I've heard different answers. One doctor told me it takes two *fasting* blood sugars over 140 to make the diagnosis. Another source I read said that if your fasting sugar is between 100 and 120 you are borderline, and over 120 means you have full-blown diabetes. I'm not too sure about that one. I'd rather trust a hemoglobin A1C test, which shows the average over a three-month period. But for daily blood sugar tests, the key is *fasting.* What matters most is the blood sugar level before eating.

To be diagnosed as a diabetic you need to have other tests done such as a glucose tolerance test and A1C test. It is normal for any ones blood sugar to spike up after eating.

its not the high of the blood sugar but how long does it stay high more than 4 hrs at the high (same level) than you need to see a doc
