I have two recipes here that I use but my boyfriends mom makes it better than I do. I've asked her for the recipe but I don't think that she wants to share her secrets lol. If you know of a good way of making it then please share it with me. Thank you ahead of time.

Oh sorry yes I did mean Nuoc cham. I understand what the bottled stuff is lol. It's just plain fish sauce and by itself it's clearly nasty.

I know that I'm supposed to use sugar, water, garlic, fish sauce, red pepper, then vinegar or lime. I just can't get the right combination. Sometimes it comes out better than others but I would like to have a good recipe to get it right everytime.

I think you're talking about nuoc cham?

Which is basically water + fish sauce + crushed fresh red pepper
+ garlic + sugar Sometimes my mum puts some pickled carrots and (actually I don't know the name of it but it's a white root veggie. Well if you're Viet I think you know what the hell I'm talking about).

Make it to however you like it. Some like it tangy and sour while others like it sweet or pungent as far as I've seen.

well... you can just buy the ones already bottled at the grocery store... = )
