Bananas will continue to ripen at room temperature. So, when they are at the prefect ripeness for your choice, you can refrigerate them. They will not continue to ripen and will not go bad. However, the peel will blacken as if they were way overripe. The peel colour is an illusion. I've eaten them many times after they've been refrigerated at the right point and they are never, ever spoiled that way.

Banana Storage Bananas can be refrigerated for several days to stunt ripening. Although the skins of refrigerated bananas will turn brown, the fruit itself will be fine. Allow the refrigerated fruit to come to room temperature before consuming for full flavor. Peeled bananas should be eaten immediately lest they discolor due to exposure to the air. Bananas can be frozen whole, but don't expect the same texture when thawed. Freeze them in their skin and save for later use in sauces, baked goods, or blended drinks. Add one tablespoon of citrus or pineapple juice to one cup of mashed bananas and freeze in a sealed container up to three months.

If they are already ripened then yes. The peel will turn dark but the banana will still be yummy. If you like making banana bread you can even store them in the freezer until you are ready to bake some bread. Just put them in a ziploc and put them in the freezer.

bananas, like avacados, keep ripening after being picked, so if left out they naturally ripen, by putting them in the fridge, you slow down the process, the skin browns but they are still ok. When they are cheap in season, I buy lots, peel, wrap in clingwrap and freeze. I can then use for baking or smoothies when none about!

No never put bananas in the fridge. So leave it out of the fridge if you want it lasting a bit longer.

no, it will turn them brown and nasty. my favorite ways to use bananas that are turning are to make banana bread OR you can PEEL THEM, slice them into 1/4 inch slices, and put in single layer in sealed ziplock baggy to put in FREEZER. Then if you make hot oatmeal in the morning, you can toss in the "banana coins" cool it off and it is perfect. Or they're just good plain as a cold fruity icecream alternative. unpeeled frozen bananas turn black and goopy! :)

No, Actually if you would want to ripen them faster put them in the icebox, otherwise leave them on the counter. Cold makes them turn brown..
