I've had the Maze and so has my mom. Luckily I'm still out of aFib, but my mom is back in. We were both told that we were not candidates for the ablation because the aFib was too serious. I even went to the Cleveland Clinic and talked to a specialist out there and they said that they couldn't do anything. Apparently, the Maze isn't as effective as they say it is. They don't follow their patients long enough, so they can't give real statistics on cure rates. Wish I could help more on the ablation part of it, but I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone -- the Maze just doesn't work all that well.

sorry to hear that.
cardiac ablation may work better.
I dont have much experience with it but it sounds that it will have a better results than maze procedure since the AV node will be abolished completely & so no imulses will be conducted from the atrium to the ventricle ( i.e. no AF)
keep in mind that the left atrium itself will continue to fibrillate but those impulses will NOT be conducted to the ventricle & thats what matter.
good luck & I think you must give it a try, there is nothing really to lose.
