Signs and symptoms of diabetes that you should watch out for: always thirsty, frequent urination, wounds taking a long time to heal, fatigue(being sleepy or no energy). Best thing to do: take your daughter to the doctor for blood work up.

A high BMI in a child does not make her diabetic. The only way to tell for sure is with a comprehensive blood test. A combination of a GTT (glucose tolerance test) and a hemoglobin A1C test will tell for sure. Don't worry, it's quite unlikely.

There are signs and symptoms of diabetes:
- increased hunger
- increased thrist
- increased urination
- weight loss
- susceptibility to infection
If your daughter has this symptoms, then she may have diabetes. Since she is above the 95th percentile she is considered overweight. She may benefit from dietary modification and exercise. You should discuss your concerns with your pediatrician, review your family history for diabetes.
Hope this helps

Unless your daughter has show signs of a diabetic, otherwise I don't see why you need to be so anxious. However, if you want to be comfortable I suggest you sent her to your family doctor to determine if your dauthter is diabetic.

WHEN IT COMES TO GENETICS, ITS ALWAYS A HIT OR MISS. BUT WHEN IT COMES TO BEING A DIABETIC OR NOT. UNFORTUNATELY, IT'S MORE HIT THAN MISS.
IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO MAKE SURE SHE EATS THE RIGHT TYPES OF FOODS AND EXERCISES. BEING A YOUNG CHILD, KEEPING HER SPORTS IS A GREAT WAY OF MAKING SURE SHE EXERCISES. WATCH OUT FOR THOSE FOODS THAT HAVE "NATURAL" SUGARS. THEY CAN BE JUST AS BAD AS A BOWL OF SUGAR-CEREAL.
YOU DOCTOR IS A GREAT SOURCE FOR INFORMATION.

Yes she can, but see her Dr. He might want to have some diabetic tests done on her to see.
