I want to replace Plavix with a natural herb? I have had 10 heart surgeries & 11 stints in the last 3 yrs. And suffered a stroke. 15 mo's ago I was given 2-3 mo's to live. I now live in Thailand where I eat 90% Veggies,8% Fruits, & 2% meats. Cancer of the lung is now in remission. I am off over 30+ doses of med's. Now only taking 1 baby asprin morning & I take 10 herbal Jiaogulan leaf to control my cholestrol & blood pressure. I now would like to get off Plavix?? I am not sure the baby asprin can carry the full load of thinning my blood?? Or can it with out hurting my stomach?(Ulcers etc) if too much rt??Asprin(120mg per morning) JerDon

I am not a medical doctor, but like most of them I always carry some aspirin in my pocket and take 250 mg to 500 mg at a time.
Once per day if necessary. The maximum amount is 4 g (if you do not take anything else!). In your case this would be too much. Concerning ulcer I usually always take aspirin with black or green tea. All these polyphenols in tea are a complete cascade of molecules for your redox system and wil protect you from the free radicals, therefore from inflammation and from ulcer at the end. There are some risks of interactions in taking other herbs if you already consume so much medications.

You may not have been hearing recent news reports of late event thrombosis (clotting) occurring at drug-eluting stents - typically in the 2 year and beyond point. There is no substitute for Plavix - pharmaceutical or herbal. We recommend that all of our patients who have in-dwelling stents take Plavix for life.

Is there some particular reason other than a desire to be free of prescription medications that you want to discontinue the Plavix? If that is the only reason, I would not endorse your stopping the medication at all. Aspirin, while it works similarly, does not replace the action of Plavix. With all of your other health problems (including a history of a probable thrombo-embolic stroke) it seems to me you would do what ever is necessary to avoid un-necessary complications...in short take the Plavix. Another issue is that because of your cancer (even if in remisssion) you are in a typically hypercoagulable state anyway...one more reason to continue to take the Plavix.

Good luck.
