I'll go with Noron N. on this --- aortic aneurysms have a strong genetic component --- Marfan-like syndromes -- and this can affect heart valves, eyesight, etc. Just get it checked out, and make sure you and everybody body else is clean. It's cheaper to fix now than to repair in an emergency. Good luck to you and your brother.

A 4.1cm AAA is still small. Most vascular surgeons don't talk surgery until either the AAA reaches 5cm or it starts growing quickly. All things being equal, 5cm is when the risk of the surgery is outweighed by the benefits of the surgery. Six months is a reasonable time frame for most patients. Even if it grows in that time, it's unlikely to grow to a dangerous size in that time. When the time comes, there are two ways of fixing the aneurysm. The choice depends on the size/shape of the aneurysm, the patient, and the surgeon. Endovascular repair involves two incisions in the groin. A stent-graft is passed into the aorta and placed. Usually, the person goes home the next day. Open repair involves placing a Dacron (usually) graft that essentially replaces the aneurysm. This is a five day stay. Your husband needs to be in contact with a good vascular surgeon. Best of luck.

You should report your brothers condition to your Doctor and let him schedule appropriate tests. Also, check family history.

I'd sure tell him about it and let him know I want it checked and ruled out. He may say no, but remember that he works FOR you, so tell him you want it done. Be sure to have him note it in your chart that you are high risk or something, so your insurance will pay it. Good luck
