Redwoods make 'rashers' which are available in most healthfood stores. There are 'Bacos' which are soy bacon flavoured pieces, you can get these from morrisons but they are GM. Hope this helps, if you get stuck pm me, i think we may live locally !

Be careful of "natural flavors" in the soy bits. It often means it has some type of pig juice in it. I do know for a fact that Betty Crocker Bacos are vegan. Hopefully they are available in your area. The only sure way to know is to ask. Sometimes they will tell you what natural flavorings are and sometimes they wont. To answer Felecity's question: A lot of people who like the taste of meat still give it up out of principle and hence we have meat substitues. The idea is to get a meaty taste without actually killing an animal. I think people get confused and look at eating meat like we do smoking where as when you quit if you just have one at a later time your hooked again. This is not the case with meat. So meat substitutes are great for the people who miss meat or need it for a certain recipe as long as the animal is not killed or maimed. The other thing I have noticed though is that the longer you dont eat meat, the less you want it. I even find the smell of most Deli's sickening now and I dont want my food prepared anywhere near an animal carcass.

I know the brand Morning Star makes fake bacon. But I'm not sure about bacon bits! You can find most Morning Star products at your local grocery store

If you fry pumpkin seeds they smell just like bacon. Very good in salads instead of bacon bits but no good if you want to wrap something in a bacon substitute.

I noticed yesterday that Iceland Superstore now sells Quorn bacon rashers. Good luck, hope you have an Iceland near you. If not give them a call and you will find they are very helpful.

Sainsburies, Tesco, Iceland. Quorn bacon style stuff. It is a good substitute.
Holland and Barrett sells rashers which aren't as good but still fine.

If you read the label most bacon bits are made from soy, real bacon bits are rare and pretty expensive.
Hope this helps (always read the labels)
