This is going to sound crazy but I swear this works every single time: I pull on my earlobe a few times. I know, I know, but it really works. However, you have to do it after the first or second hiccup. If you wait any longer it will not work. Try it

There are lots of "cures," most of which work less than half the time. Statistically, the most likey to work is table sugar on the soft palate. It seems to act as a counter-irritant without being too irritating.
Reminds me of the riddle of the guy who walks into the bar and asks for a glass of water. The bartender pulls a pistol and points it at the guy, who thanks him and leaves. You know the rest.

Try forcing yourself to hiccup...that always gets rid of my hiccups. Also, even though you said other than water, try sticking a pencil under your tongue and then drinking a glass of water. It actually works.

(X) Hyperventilate.
(X) Induce a cough or sneeze.
(X) Do the Valsalva maneuver (translation: mouth shut and nostrils plugged)
Relax and breathe from your diaphragm.

Take three to five of the deepest breaths you can.
(X) Blow on your thumb (as if you were blowing up a balloon).
(X) Hold your breath (for 8 seconds, for as long as you can, etc.).
Inhale some air into your stomach, then let out as loud a belch as possible.
:D hope one of these works

I've been told a spoon full of peanut butter can work. Also one time I had the hiccups and someone said "I'll give you this 20.00 bill if you hiccup again." And would you know it, I couldn't! lol

By "not drink water" I am assuming you mean the regular way of drinking water. However, try standing up and putting your head down towards the floor and drink the water upside down. It works every time for me!
