Go with whatever you're happy with. Offer enough side dishes and other options to ensure that everyone's happy.

Personally, I love spaghetti and I'd be very happy with it as Christmas dinner. Especially if it's homemade.

Ham is the "traditional" Christmas dinner in the U.S., but you can really make anything that you like. Personally, I can't stand ham so I've never made that for Christmas. I think homemade Italian spaghetti with meatballs sounds like a wonderful Christmas dinner. We're having 10 people this year and I'm making Filet Mignon with Madiera Wine Sauce.

If you're worried that spaghetti and meatballs won't go far enough, then you can do another Italian dish that'll definately feed a crowd. It's always been the Christmas tradition in my family (we're Italian) to do lasagna. You can just make a big ol' pan full of it and it'll feed your crowd no problem. We manage quite well with the 12 of us.

If you're serving 5 people though, a big pot of spaghetti and meatballs should be just fun.

Best of luck and Merry Christmas to you!

I think it is a perfectly fine thing to serve for Christmas dinner. A lot of people have lasagna for their Christmas meals. I would love to have spaghetti and meatballs homemade for dinner. Yum! Don't let your friend get you second guessing yourself. A disclaimer, I am from an Italian family......
Happy Holidays!

Sounds great! You can always add some sides. Try cooked escarole for one. It's easy and Delicious! Wash and separate a ''head'' of escarole and leave in colander.Get the widest pan or pot you have. Cover the bottom with olive oil. Throw in some chopped garlic and saute (4 cloves or more). The garlic should saute for a minute (don't burn!). Now throw the wet escarole in. Add a quarter cup water (or better yet, white wine) and cover. Cook on medium heat until escarole ''wilts''. Now reduce heat to low and simmer until a dark green color appears. This may sound tough, but the whole thing won't take twenty minutes. Just remember, don't let it dry out and burn, add water or wine as needed to keep a quater inch of liquid on the bottom (the steam does the trick!).

Sure, why not, if everyone likes Italian food. Probably the main reason your friend is making ham is that she's feeding a crowd. You are having a smaller party, so you have more freedom to make something a little different. Have fun!

I think it is just fine. Christmas is not about what you eat. Whoever you are cooking for should appreciate the effort you put into preparing the meal, whether it is spaghetti or something more traditional.
