I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes in 1968. The same signs that were taught back then are still taught today.

1. Thirst (not a normal thirst, but a constant cotton mouth except for when the water is actually in your mouth. About twenty seconds after you swallow it, you have that same icky dry as the desert cotton mouth.

2. More frequest urination. What goes in must come out!

3. Weight loss. Typically this is a somewhat dramatic loss due to the fact that you are drinking so much and that your mouth feels so dry...you feel you will not be able to swallow the food for fear of it getting caught in your throat. You don't want to eat anything that will dry out your mouth further. Also, you just don't WANT to eat (that is what it was in my case, at least).

4. Feeling sick to your stomach. It is a combination of not eating as well as you need to, and the fact that without the proper amount of insulin in your system your body can not use the nutrients the way it needs to use them. It's not a nausea kind of feeling...just a "This is not normal for me" kind of feeling.

5. Tiredness. This is also because you are not eating like you need to be eating, and water does not give you energy.

6. "Fruity" smell to your breath. This is a sign of high Keatones, which signal that there is something definitely amuck with the machinery of the body.

Those are some of the main signals of type I. Everyone is different, remember. Not everyone will show the same signs and symptoms, nor will you necessarily show ALL of them...maybe just two or three of the initial signs.

Your best bet would be to get into a doctor or nurse practitioner if you are that concerned and tell them your concerns. A simple five second blood test will help in determining what is going on if anything.

My last bit of advice. Stop drinking, especially if you think there is diabetes presest. Alcohol or liquor of any kind will mess with your blood glucose levels (BG).

I hope that helps some...I know you are worried and I can tell you that I realize how scary this can be. The LAST thing you want to do when you feel something is really wrong is go see a doctor because they might tell you that you were right. Try and get there anyway. You will only suffer worse (and I do not wish to scare you with what happens physically should you not get in...especially if you like your eyesight, do not want a kidney transplant, lose feeling in your extremeties, have a stroke or heart attack...) if you do not get in to a clinic.

I'm around...

My rising sign is Capricorn- sextile my venus/pluto in Scorpio, conjunct my neptune in Capricorn, trine my moon in Gemini with saturn in Aquarius in the first house. Capricorn and saturn are associated with skin and bones. I have dry skin, but a great complextion. I have naturally strong, straight, well shaped, white teeth. I have never broken a bone or suffered an acne attack. I'm 5'7" and weigh enough to make me obese, but I have never been called "fat" by anyone. Capricorn rising has endowed me with being slender and well porportioned. I think the venus/pluto conjunction that sextiles my rising makes me look busty and big-hipped. I am often told that I have bedroom eyes, that they're very dark and steel-like, or that I look like I'm never there (dreamy neptune does this to me). Many of the people that I meet and befriend tell me that I'm intimidating. I tend to stare into people, rather than at people and I like to cross the line to see where the limits lie. I have both bold Scorpio and inquisitive Gemini to thank for my frequent inquisitions. When I start working on something, I won't stop until it's done. I've been called OCD because I tend to be a control freak and can't stand it when something is not done a certain way. I usually get my way and have a hard time accepting when I don't. If I'm really set on getting what I want, I work for it or manipulate the hell out of the people I need to get it. Needless to say, I keep few and very loyal friends. I'm very independant and enjoy being alone. I think the rising sign, it's aspects, and the planets in signs that aspect it influence both the personality and the physical self.

Frequent urination
Excessive thirst
Tingling or Numbness in Your Hands, Legs or Feet
Weakness and Fatigue
Dry or itchy skin
Cuts/bruises that take a long time to heal
Blurred vision

One day of these symptoms does NOT mean you have diabetes. Most likely, you're not feeling well because you had too much to drink the night before. You're probably dehydrated. Drink lots of water today, and orange juice or other fruit juice with vitamin C. You'll feel a lot better tomorrow.

The only way to tell is by a glucose tolerance test. Any doctor or clinic should be able to give you one. You will drink some really nasty stuff (it's supposed to tast like soda, but the orange flavor tastes like children's chewable aspirin from the 70's.) Anyway, if you think you may have a problem with your blood sugar, get checked out immediately. If you are diabetic, putting off treatment can lead to EXTREMEMLY serious consequences.

base on what you wrote, it may be the alcohol that you drank the other day. because the symptom of diabeties is thirsty, tire easily, urinate alot. but you said that you not thirsty and last night you drank alcohol. but to make sure, you should go to a doctor and ask he to do a check up right away. because if they found out quickly they can treat you early.

The early symptoms of untreated diabetes are related to elevated blood sugar levels, and loss of glucose in the urine. High amounts of glucose in the urine can cause increased urine output and lead to dehydration. Dehydration causes increased thirst and water consumption. The inability of insulin to perform normally has effects on protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism. Insulin is an anabolic hormone, that is, one that encourages storage of fat and protein. A relative or absolute insulin deficiency eventually leads to weight loss despite an increase in appetite. Some untreated diabetes patients also complain of fatigue, nausea and vomiting. Patients with diabetes are prone to developing infections of the bladder, skin, and vaginal areas. Fluctuations in blood glucose levels can lead to blurred vision. Extremely elevated glucose levels can lead to lethargy and coma.
