i've never had an STD before and im not sure i have one now. i had unprotected sex a week ago. it was the first time i did since i have been tested (clean) and it was with someone who had been tested just 3 months back and came back clean and had just one partner since then. i am prone to UTIs and i thought i was getting one two days after the first intercourse. i called the doctor and got medicine. now i am detecting a very strong foul smelling odor from my discharge and VERY light spotting but no pain AT ALL. not even a little discomfort or redness or itching. since i have been on my antibiotics, there is not pain during urination either. is it possible that i have a STD with no pain? if so, will my antibiotics for the UTI clear it up? the antibiotics are Macrobid 100mg capsule 2/day for 10days.
thanks

My physicians desk reference says that macrobid is a urinary anti infective and should not be used to treat other parts of the body.

A foul smelling odor could be chlamydia or bacterial vaginosis. The chlamydia is probably not the cause and I'm thinking that the bacterial vaginosis is probably what it is. You need antibiotics for this and you need to see a doc for an exam before you can diagnose this one. Don't worry though BV is not an STD, it's just an infection. Hope you feel better soon.

It is possible you have an STD. Most STDs are painless with foul odor discharge. Your antibiotics will not clear it up. However, there is another antibiotic that clears up most STDs so you'll probably have to get it. You need to go to the doctor and get tested again. However, with the information you have about unprotected sex, your doctor may test you and prescribe you the antibiotics before the results are back just as a prevention. In any case, go see the doctor and remember: some STDs are painless and some have no symptoms at all.

Possibly. It does not seem like you have an STD however. Certain antibiotics work on certain types of Bacteria. If you have Gonorrhea for example, which is highly unlikely, you will have a different type of bug so it needs to be treated with other types of Anti-biotics, a Broader spectrum.
To answer your questions, yes it is very possible to have an STD without pain, etc. (asymptomatic) and It depends on what STD you have (which You most likely do not) so this prescription may not take care of it.
To take a further prevention on UTI's it is a great idea to both increase your intake of Yougurt because it has a good bacterium called Lactobacillus that maintains the pH in your Vagina and Also Cranberry juice becuase of its antioxidative nature, as well as cut back on sugar since this serves as a better environment for UTI's to grow.
Good luck!

If you went for the doctor and they prescribed that you had a UTI and gave you antibiotics then that is what you have..

The other symptoms you are getting sound very much like a candida (thrush) infection which is very common in women. This is also extreemly common to be brought on by the exact antibiotics that are used to get rid of UTI's.. (happens to me EVERY time...so I have home remedies to get rid of UTI's now - which have worked wonders... email me if you want to discuss that.)

You'll need to treat that, as it will become unbearable when the itching starts... Ask the doc to be sure though.

Sounds like it may be trichomonis. It produces a foul smelling dishcarge. Alot of times when guys get stds or infections such as trich they have very little to no symptoms at all. If I were you i would go to the dr asap and get it checked out.

Not all anti-biotics cure all of the same things. You need to see your Dr. instead of just calling him/her.

It may be a bad UTI, but you need testing to see waht the microbe is to determine the right Anti-biotic

Make an appointment, ASAP

Please use condoms, always, until you are with your long term mate and are both clean whne tested.

Take care of yourself!

You could have bacterial vaginitis (BV)...which can cause discharge and at times an odor...though a strong fishy odor is usually a different type of infection. Different types of medications are prescribed for different infections. I believe flagyl is prescribed for BV. Trich is usually the causative factor for a strong fishy odor......I used to be an OB nurse.
