Hi Candy

Here it is, you either want to smoke or you dont, if you started smoking to be cool or whatever and you cant quit then you really dont want to quit.
It does no good to look for a crutch in quitting, all you need is the desire to not smoke anymore , period.

If you truely understand the harm its doing to your body you will not smoke, not just for yourself but for your loved ones also.

I say these things because I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 50 years and tried quitting many times. I had to admit that I really didnt want to quit so I didnt.

It took open heart surgery to convince me that I no longer wanted to hurt myself with tobacco smoke, I quit cold turkey and that was 15 months ago. I feel so much better and breath so much better now.

When your young you know these things but it doesnt feel like the smoking is hurting you, but as the years go by it gets worse untill its almost to late.

Cold turkey with conviction is the way to do it.

I personally don't smoke, but from what I have seen the Nicotine gum/patch etc. DOESN'T WORK. However, my brother-in-law, who has been a smoker for 15+ years quit in two months with the smokers hot line. Now, sadly, I do not know where you live. But here's a wonderful site to help you decide what number to call. http://www.smokefreefamilies.org/quit/tollfree.asp Honestly, give it a try. It's free and it wont hurt to try. Good luck getting healthy!

I quit after 50 something years and over 5 packs a day

After the 5 th attempt to quit and spending over $1000.00 on the so called patch/inhaler/gum/lozenge Zyban/wellubutain my personal 2¢ is this all of the above "Might" work "IF" you are smoking a 1/2 pack a day or less

Over that you probably need to use the time method to get down to 1/2 pack a day, other than that it's a waste of your $$

I quit after weaning down to 5 cigarettes a day...timed puffs every 45 min.or so...to a total of 5 all day. After a month, I went on the nigarette gum...and all is well. 12 weeks on the gum, and I was finished. It was great, but I was determined. Your chances weaken with your resolve. You have to be fed up with smoking for it all to work.

You just really have to wanna quit more than you wanna smoke. I quit cold turkey, but I'd not been smoking but about a year. Learning exactly what all smoking does to your body helped me quit. Go to webmd.com and do some research on how it affects your body.

the patch works well and the gum is a good oral habit to distract you, but it's a lot a mental thing and a conscious effort to say no to yourself when you want a cigarete. also, don't go outside to "talk" if someone goes outside for a cigaretter break
