A 52 year old man has chest pain over two weeks. He is diagnosed with angina. The prescription is aspirin 75mg, one tablet in the morning. Atenolol 100mg, one tablet in the morning. GTN spray, one dose for chest pain. Can any pharmacist comment on this? Is there any useful websites? Thanks.

The Aspirin is fine. His Atenolol dose is a bit on the high side - you might be concerned as to how he is tolerating this and make sure he does not become markedly bradycardic.
Patients with ischaemic heart disease should always be on a Statin as well.
Depending on how well his angina is controlled and how often he needs to use his GTN spray he might need additional antianginal medication such as oral Nitrate or Nicorandil (Ikorel).
Hope this is of some help :o)

where are you a Pharmacy student? I'm not aware of aspirin coming in 75 mg doses, the atenolol looks right, and I ASSUME you mean nitroglycerin (NTG) spray.

Assuming that this patient has no other comorbidities (pretty damned unlikely with angina), then this regimen looks fine to me.

Bradycardia (as was mentioned earlier) might be a potential problem. I assume the 100 mg dose was 'worked up'.

As for the ACE inhibitor mentioned earlier by another answerer, that would be standard post-MI.......but then so would a statin. And you made no mention of anything other than angina

This is a standard treatment for this condition, nothing wrong and perfectly normal.
Please note GTN should be NTG.

Look at your DiPiro (Pharmacotherapy).
It's a fairly good regiment except for one thing.
Hint, where's his ACE inhibitor?
