HIV tests don't test for the virus, they test for the anti-bodies. Therefore, being HIV negative means you do not have antibodies for HIV. It takes about 6 weeks for your immune system to produce antibodies, so you could test as HIV negative and actually have the virus in your body, and still spread it to other people
Having HIV also does not mean you will necessarily get AIDS with modern treatment. However, it's the only way you can get AIDS

HIV negative means you are not showing any signs of having the virus that causes HIV. If you were positive for HIV that means it will turn into aids.

HIV negative is exactly what it says, there are no viral particles in your blood. Now, stay away from the activity that had you tested in the first place and you will live a very long time!

I believe HIV positive means you have the AIDS virus or have been exposed but are not actively ill from it yet..Its like people who test positive for TB... they have been exposed and many will block off the TB until their immune systems are down than they may have full blown TB...
I am not sure though what the contagion is..for HIV
Since you are negative you need not worry.
