I'm vegan and i has a question for vegetarians.

Why do you stop eating meat and continue eating other animal products like eggs, dairy, fish (which is meat)?

The question is for long time vegetarians, not people in a transitional stage.

There are some vegans that eat eggs, dairy and fish.
A true vegan will use only plant proteins from soya, tofu, beans, etc.
It simply is a matter of choice and how serious you are about avoiding any animal products.
Some vegans will also exclude animal products from their attire. I.E. leather.
My son's classmate claims to be vegan but will eat meat occasionally, I think that is strange.

I became vegetarian mainly for etheric hygeine/ spiritual reasons, and also for ease of foods.
If I do eat eggs or dairy, I am conscious where the source is: i.e. grass fed, farm raised, organic, free range.
I started off macrobiotic, which allows occasional use of fish in the winter months in particular.
Many Buddhists who are advocates of non-violence and practice animal liberation, are meat eaters -i.e. Tibetians. (note that very few vegetables grew in their region).
There are many sides and points of view around vegetarianism.
The majority of vegetarians on the planet are veg due to religion or spiritual based motives. Many HIndus eat a "sattvic" diet, which includes dairy, but not ginger, garlic or onions as these are "rajasic". (see Sivananda organization). I followed this for a while when I was following an ayruvedic diet. Every group will have different cultural /religous leaning.
For example, the pranic healing organization, recommends abstinence from mainly pork, shell fish, and meats. Fish is etherically the "cleanest" of all animal products. So, small amounts are allowed, at higher levels of competency.

Hope this helps bring a different perspective to the discussion.

Some people just don't know about the suffering and murders caused by the egg and dairy industry and think the problem is only with meat. Some "just like cheese too much" or stuff like that. And some just don't give a crap, sadly.

I've also spoken to a couple people who have had medical issues that stopped them. Deadly allergies to soy, allergies to wheat, diabetes, or a combination of those and more. Other than medical issues, there's really not a great reason to NOT go vegan ...

Well im vegetarian, i don't drink cow milk, mostly egg beaters, no fish cuz it IS meat, but i do eat other dairy products. i thought of being vegan but, i'm really only against the mass murder of animals. Normally, cows still make milk, and chickens eggs.. so thats why still eat dairy and sumtimes eggs

i have been a vegetarian since i could choose my own food. i have never eaten an egg or fish in my life and i try to limit my dairy products. i don't drink milk, but i haven't eliminated all dairy products because i am a very picky eater as it is (i don't like most vegetables). i don't wear leather & i despise fur, and i try and only buy cruelty-free beauty products. i have a lot of respect for vegans and perhaps i can be one some day, but for now i do eat some dairy.

I think people do what they can. I have a friend who does not eat meat, but eats fish and dairy products. The REASON she does not eat meat is that she feels that a field of soybeans is much more energy-efficient than a field of cows, for example. It takes much more energy to get a pound of meat to the table than a pound of tofu. I imagine fish and dairy products are cheaper, from the standpoint of energy required to produce a daily allowance of calories.

I’m a vegetarian and have been for a few years now. I was vegan for a while, and mostly am right now. My only problem is that I can’t give up chocolate and can’t find a good vegan bread.

i know what you mean, there are alot of vegetarians who go around saying "meat is murder" but don't they know that they are contributing to factory farming and animal deaths by eating eggs and dairy.I don't how people can say that they are a vegetarian if they eat fish.that kind of pisses me off, when did fish become a f*cking vegetable.
