Choking the chicken LOL!! (sorry it just sounds naughty!!!)
In answer to your question they hang the animal from the ceiling , the Memsab (sorry if I spelt it wrong) then slits it's throat whilst uttering 'Bismillah' (the breath of God.) Being a girly vegetarian I find that a bit gross, but each to their own, you decide!!

The method of slaughtering an animal is that the animal should be placed on the ground with the face towards the qiblah (direction of prayer.. the Kaa'bah in Makkah, Saudi Arabia). The person should take a sharp knife, recite Bismillahi (In the Name of ALLAAH/GOD) Allahu Akbar (GOD is Great) and cut the neck of the animal in such a manner that four veins (or passage ways) are cut off. They are: the air passage, the gullet, and the two jugular veins which are on either side of the gullet and the air passage. If only three out of these four are cut, the slaughter will be valid and the animal will be halaal. If only two of the four are cut, the animal will be considered to be dead and it will not be permissible to consume the meat of such an animal. It is discouraged/disliked to slaughter an animal with a blunt knife as this causes much suffering to the animal. It is also disliked/discouraged to begin skinning, cutting, breaking the hands and feet of the animal before it can become cold (meaning, before it can become lifeless). Similarly, it is discouraged/disliked to continue cutting the animal's neck after having cut the four passage ways. It is permissible to slaughter an animal with any sharp object such as a sharp stone, a sharp cane, a sharp bamboo, etc. An animal cannot be slaughtered if it is scared, it can only be done when the animal is calm. And when slaughtering, it is not allowed to let the animal see the knife, it must stay hidden. Also, it is forbidden to slaughter while other animals are watching. Salam (Peace).

Halal meats are killed in the most human possible way. The animals are just sliced once at the throat. The person doing it has to take precautions that the knife is very very sharp and sterile so that the animal feels the least amount of pain when slaughtered. For those ppl out there who thinks that anything that has to do with killing is provocative or whatever, then just go vegetarian! No one's forcing you to eat any meat. Whatever animal that has been killed for game or eating, be it by shooting or slaughtering or anything, is still considered killing. So do not blame the muslims. killing is killing, whichever way it's done ok? peace

Any meat muslims kill for consumption is halal and it shall only be killed in 'humanly' form i.e a mode of killing that ensures faster least painful death to the animal (cutting the throat). Anything short of that renders the animal non halal (haram).

I think you mean humanely. The main purpose of halal slaughtering is to drain the blood out of the animal as quickly as possible. Kosher slaughter is the same. It makes sense in hot climates if you don't have refrigeration. (These 'religious' laws are ancient). I have witnessed halal killing and it's all over very quickly. The knife must be very sharp.

How can any animals be killed humanely for food consumption? Its a contradiction in terms.
The only way to kill animals humanely would be to put them to sleep with an injection. However, then it would not be fit for human consumption due to the carcass being full of chemicals.
Just learn to accept it. MEAT IS MURDER.
Additionally, if everyone became vegetarian then global warming would become a thing of the past, as the need to cut down forests in order to grow the soya with which to feed animals contributes far more to the problem than any aircraft could.

If you think it's good to choke the chicken, what's next?
flogging the mule?
beating the monkey?
whacking the mole?
pounding the weasel?
How would you like it if you were sitting on a bench relaxing and a stranger arrived & started to yank you off? then furously pounded away at you until you spilt your man fat?
It's the same as choking the chicken to me!!

It should be banned in this country. Outright. I have seen it done and whatever people may say about the western method they are liable for prosecution if untold suffering is caused. The muslims (and jews) escape this clause because it's called religious. No animal should be killed religiously but as quickly and as cleanly as possible.
Halal is barbaric. And has no place in a modern, civilised society.

Nature has created millions and millions of species who have to survive by killing other species. Human being are only one of these species. If you have to eat meat then some one has to kill the animal for it for you or else you will have to do it yourself. So the person who does it for you has the right to have his or her own belief to the act of killing. In halal the belief is that only god gives life and it is only god who can take it away.

lol! That's funny!
Besides, halal meat is killed by either slitting the animals throat or by lopping its head off!
