"Results of a nationally representative study show that genital herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide, at least 45 million people ages 12 and older, or one out of five adolescents and adults, have had genital HSV infection. Between the late 1970s and the early 1990s, the number of Americans with genital herpes infection increased 30 percent.
Genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of five). This may be due to male-to-female transmissions being more likely than female-to-male transmission. "

No, you are not going to get it for sure. Many people manage their herpes so that their partners don't get it, r at least greatly lower the risk. I've read 1 in 4 people have some form of herpes, don't know how accurate that is.
People talk bad about it because they don't know much about it, it can be very scary, plus in the 70's-80's, it was the "AIDS" of that time so people really freaked out about it. Now that people talk about it more and there's more education, they can see it's not a huge deal.

Herpes is Forever! Women are more susceptible to getting Herpes then men. Genital herpes is spread by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with a person who has the herpes simplex virus, or HSV. I have added a link to some example of Herpes in the genital area (strong stomachs ONLY)! I think herpes IS that bad! You must take medication to keep it at bay.. try famvir or Valtrex. You can get herpes meds online without a prior prescription at http://herpesrxfast.com/index.php . They have everything you may need for Herpes. Careful out there!

Tim i think you hit the question just right, all those questions we do not have the information available to us, the more i read about diseases the more i'm thinking there different levels of an outbreak and someone might have had one and had never known. I think it's the fear factor again we (our society) has sent everyone into a frenzy about std's because of HIV epidemic and it seems like the more they think they are educating us they more diseases are spreading, that is what i want to know what's wrong with this picture they need to come up with a better plan

Type herpes into your search engine and do some research for yourself. You can find out how it's spread, how easily it is spread, what the symptoms are, long term effects, etc.
It's not a pretty thing...and it's currently incurable.
