101 sounds a little high for a fasting blood sugar but I'm not a Dr. or nurse. My mom is diabetic and she wakes up with low blood sugar like 70 in the morning. Check with your doctor and monitor your sugar levels for a few weeks. Also make sure your doctor gets a few A1C tests done. This test tells your bloodsugar levels over a period of time not just at that time.

If you are worried about having diabetes, you should make an appointment with your doctor. Fasting blood glucose test is taken when you have not eaten for 8 hours, or there is a test that is 2 hours after you have eaten to test your blood sugar. The ranges for you blood sugar vary and should be done by a doctor.

When did you fast and after how many hours, you took the reading.
If you have taken the reading 12 hours after fasting, then a reading of 101 is not ok,
You have to confirm you are diabetic, with glucose test
As you have a glucose meter you can test yourself :
Have your dinner before 7.00 pm and don't eat anything.
Go to bed as usual.
Early morning skip breakfast.
Take your blood glucose reading.
Mix with 1/2 a cup of water 50 gms of glucose and drink it.
Wait for 2 hours without breakfast ( 1 )
Take your reading.
Wait for 2 more hours with out breakfast
Take your reading.( 2 )
Wait for 2 more hours with out breakfast
Take your reading.( 3 )
Wait for 2 more hours with out breakfast
Take your reading ( 4 )
The final 4th reading must be only 80mg/dl,to confirm.
This they call as Glucose test to confirm diabetes.

Fasting normal blood sugar should be 60-120 but that is not eating or drinking for 12 hours.
