A bleb is a small collection of fluid. The word apical doesn't necessarily mean the lungs. Apical blebs can occur is places other than the lungs. Apical pleural or subpleural blebs refer specifically to those in the lungs. Little pockets of fluid. And, yes, the apex, the apical portion is the uppermost part of the lungs and is located just below the clavicle (collarbone).

1. chest pain is never normal 2. i'm going to tell you what happened to me.. but based on your height and weight i'm not sure if you have this.. but it wouldn't hurt to check... bc lung collapses mostly happen to very tall and very slim (not saying that you aren't) Ok the exact same symptoms I had within 3 days.. I felt like it was it was minor.. but one night just from lying down.. it was a very sharp pain.. i went to the er the next morning and said "chest pain" they did all these cardiac tests.. bc it was on my left side.. and they did an xray which they failed to mention to me about..and they ignored the "left apical pneumothorax" and the stupid hospital sent me home.. Luckily it was only a small one .. pneumorthorax is a lung collapse.. mine was due to air blebs (little air pockets) on the top of my lung .. that didn't allow the lung to properly expand.. thus the collapse... this was minor, so all the doctors told me to wait because minor ones usually go away on their own.. even after seeing a pulmonologist.. who said everything looked okay.. unfortunately 2 weeks after...IT WAS VERY SERIOUS.. i leaned over a table to use my laptop and boom.. i was hyperventilating.. and it felt like there was a rock in my upper left chest.. that kept me from breathing properly.. every breath i took was painful..my face and body started to get numb.. and i was shaking... and i called the ambulance.. back to the ER to a better hospital... then they quickly did an xray and found a 50-60% collapse.. (turns out the previous collapse did not resolve on its own.. it was the same one that came back but worse).. ... chest tube inserted immediately to attempt to fully re-expand the lung.. it did not.. so surgery was done to cut off the piece of my lung with the harmful air blebs.. CT scans showed blebs on the right side as well.. but no surgery done there bc nothing happened to that one.. if I waited to get to the hospital w/o and ambulance.. i could have gotten tension pneumothorax.. which affects the heart.. and could lead to instant death.. pneumothoraxes may be common.. but it can be life threatening i am only 19 and was scared to death. so for your own sake.. as a preventive measure... get an xray to check if my symptoms sound like yours..

blebs in your lungs are just air pockets. could be due to any number of lung diseases including cystic fibrosis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, or emphysema.

apical just means the location- it's in the top part of your lungs
