My blood sugar got to 200 during a glucose tolerance test, my Dr. tells me I am borderline diabetic, stated I need to excercise more, loose some weight, I am about 40 lbs. overweight, and started me on a low dose of glucophage twice a day, he told me it would help me lose some weight, in researching this, I cannot find anywhere in the side effects that glucophage will assist with weight loss, has anyone had experience with this please. Thanks ever so much.

Glucophage is in fact used for controlling diabetes but test have recently shown that it also helps in weight loss.

It doesn't seem that it should be used as a weight loss drug, but in combination it helps it via its side effects such as allowing glucose to be absorbed into the muscles better and not allowing carbs to be absorbed as much.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

I agree with you I've been on Metformin for 3 years and have not seen a weight loss due to that. I have lost weight due to some life style changes that included what I eat, how much I eat and when I eat...........increased exercise has also contributed to some weight loss.

I keep hearing that Metformin (Glucophage) will help in weight reduction but I've never seen any data to support that.

The nurse at the doctors office I received my perscription for glucophage at, said that her daughter lost 80 lbs when she started takin it. I'm assuming b/c its helping your body break down the sugar (therefore controlling your blood sugar) and in turn helping you lose weight. I was on glucophage for about 6 months. It just made me sick- so i stopped taking it- (my sugar is never over 150) It didn't help/cause me to lose any weight though. Sorry! I was kind of excided about shedding a few pounds.

One of the side reaction is weight loss . But you should not use this drug just to reduce your weight but only to control your blood glucose level. Diet and exercise especially walking will reduce your weight.

Glocophage does not help you to lose weight. It helps to control your blood-sugar levels. It's generic name is Metformin.

"Metformin is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, circulation problems, and decreased sexual ability. Metformin belongs to the class of drugs known as biguanides. It works by helping to restore your body's proper response to the insulin you naturally produce, and by decreasing the amount of sugar that your liver makes and that your stomach/intestines absorb."

You could "say" that it helps you to lose weight by keeping you blood-glucose levels under control, in turn, making you feel well enough to get out and excercise. You can go out for a walk for 10-15 minutes a day... excercise can be something simple - it just has to get your heart rate up. Paired with portion control and healthy eating habits, the weight will come off faster than you think.

I hope this helps! Good luck!
