I was shocked when I read an answer by Becca D. According to what it said, all meat eaters are cruel and murderers. Am I the only one that thinks this Becca thing an extremist?

Quote by Becca D "This vegan" is absolutely correct. Animals are being slaughtered for your selfish tastes. If you were a vegetarian, you could save, instead of kill, approximately 95 animals per year. You are a cruel person and a murderer. Just because you work hard doesn't make you good. And you are filling your families bodies with saturated fat, cholesterol and countless chemicals which do not process out of meat. Just because you did not personally kill the animal does not mean that you are not responsible for its death.
Accessory to murder.

I don't think Becca D said anything wrong AT all !!!
In your case, you personally have said, "I LIKE HUNTING AND FISHING". Therefore you are actually THE Murderer and not the accessory. If you held gun to a person's head or attacked them with a knife and killed them for fun and japes it is still murder!!

I am dying to know which town in EIRE that you live in!! It must be full to bursting with vegans, seeing as you seem to know so many!!! I must visit next time I go "Home for my Holidays"!! Finally!!! Vegan B and Bs in Ireland where they don't ask if you'd like a wee 'sasidge' instead of just a few 'oul musharoons'

I agree with her to some extent as well. From discussions on this site, I must say I can not continue to call the killing of animals murder because it's a specieist term that legally does, as Andy and others have pointed out, only apply to humans. However that doesn't mean that you are not supporting and engaging incredibly cruel practices that are unnecessary and born out of pleasure, and that makes you something to be sure, however a murder, unfortunately, it does not make you.

I don't think this view is extremest at all. It's only the truth. You kill animals for your tasebud's pleasure and people are calling you out on it. If that doesn't bother you then that's fine. enjoy your steak.
If it does bother you, then you should rethink what your eating.

@ Andy:

"The fact is vegetarianism doesn't save any animals live's, nor means their lives are happier, or longer. The surplus animal's lives would probably be shorter, as they wouldn't wait for them to mature. "

- This logic implys that being born into slaverly and sure permature death at the hands of a slaughthouse worker is preferable to not being born at all.
I know, I don't think so, and many others probably don't think so either.

Just so you know, you people have absolutely made my Friday! Thanks!
If you only knew. I am in no way an extremist or radical. I am actually a very quiet vegetarian, not vegan, and I never impose my beliefs upon anyone. However, if you ask my opinion you will get it. My wonderful boyfriend eats almost nothing but meat and I have never said or done anything "radical" to him. He has also never asked for my opinion on the matter and until he does, it is none of my business. So just to clear things up, I am by no means a radical, extremist or terrorist. I am actually a quiet, polite southern woman who happens to have strong feelings about animal welfare.

Here is the question that "foxhunter" originally asked:
**"Does eating meat make us cruel people?
A vegan told me that eating meat makes me a murderer and that I am responsible for death, pain and cruelty.
I work hard to provide for my family and there is always some meat on the table. To me, a meal is not complete with a meat entree. I want my family to be healthy and get the necessary nutrients that their bodies need.
What that vegan said to me is really bothering me. I consider myself to be a good person, but this vegan insists that I am a murderer. How should I respond this vegan?"**

If it is "really bothering" you to the point that you have to go online and ask complete strangers to rationalize your morality, then you probably already know the answer to your question. Don't be angry with me for giving you an answer you didn't want to hear. You asked for opinions and you got them.

And by the way, I do agree with you. "To me, a meal is not complete with a meat entree. I want my family to be healthy and get the necessary nutrients that their bodies need." Thats a quote by you , sir.
As far as all the biblical responses:
*And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food: and to every beast of the earth, and to every bird of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, [I have given] every green herb for food: and it was so. -Genesis 1:29-30
*He that killeth an ox is as he that slayeth a man. -Isaiah 66:3
If you are going to quote something, cite it so that it can be proven. I can prove my beliefs, so don't attack them unless you can absolutely prove them wrong.
Yes, I work in law enforcement and am fully aware of the legal definitions of murder. But did it ever cross your mind that maybe you shouldn't take everything you read on the internet so damn seriously? Did you ever think that I wanted to "shock" you. At least for a few seconds you were forced to think about the cruelty that you cause innocent animals on a daily basis. And as long as I can make you think about it, even for a few seconds, I feel like I've done some good. So thanks again!
Have a Blessed Christmas!

Murder is the unlawful killing of one human being by another, so no, it's not murder at all.

The point is though, that if enough people went veggie to actually affect the meat industry at all, and the demand for meat decreased, it would mean animals which were surplus to requirement. Becca D's kidding herself if she thinks that would mean they'd all get to live happily ever after, as because they couldn't be sold no one would want to keep them, and they'd still be slaughtered.
Think about it, the second farmers couldn't sell their livestock, the second they couldn't make a profit, they wouldn't keep them any more. Keeping animals isn't cheap, and to keep them, without profit, would be hugely expensive to any farmer. How many do you reckon would be prepared to make that kind of loss?
Now, what'd happen then? Maybe a few wild pigs or goats would stay alive, but for the most part it would be impossible to release them into the wild. The vast majority would have to be slaughtered.

I quote "If no one were allowed to farm animals, farms would grow crops instead. The first thing to go would be all the animals. Once the rural landscape were rid of cattle, sheep, and the like, fields would get larger, for the convenience of the combine harvesters, and hedgerows would go. Wild animals like rabbits would now be a more major pest. No farmer would want animals eating the plants, and so the war on such animals would intensify. Grown in the fields would be domesticate species of food crops, and so the number of plant species would decline."

Domestication is one of the best things that can happen to animals. If the golden eagle tasted any good you can bet your life it wouldn't be nearly extinct.
The fact is vegetarianism doesn't save any animals live's, nor means their lives are happier, or longer. The surplus animal's lives would probably be shorter, as they wouldn't wait for them to mature.

I am a vegetarian. I have been for about 4 months. Murder is such a strong word. I would have to say that her views are a little over the top but I do think that she has a point about people have selfish tastes. I think that people eat way too much meat. I have heard people say that if we stop eating meat that the animal population will over run humans. Well I don't think that is true either. We are genetically modifying and/or breeding animals to suit our tastes. For examples they get cows and chickens pregnant on purpose so they will have more offspring that we can eat. If we stopped doing that then the animal population would go down.
I think that it is unhealthy to eat meat nowadays because animals are given countless medications to keep them from getting sick (because of the close quarters). Most of the medications are passed onto us. From what my doctor told me (who is not at vegetarian) you get more of these medications when you eat things rare or medium rare.

Hope all this helps :)

Yea Becca D is enviornmental extremist. Just a quark or two away from burning some housing development for destroying raccoon habitat. Although my avatar shows an apple I'm not vegan or vegitarian, but I don't eat steaks for 3 meals a day.

She is not an extremist any more than you are. You have extreme views which, in the past have lead you to call whole sections of society "misfits", "cult members", "freaks" etc. just because of their choice not to participate in the slaughter of animals for food or any other reason. Your profile says you like hunting, therefore, you don't just kill animals for food, you do it for fun as well. I'd call everything you do on this site the act of an extremist, seeking to incite hatred of vegans amongst the meat eating majority.

Becca is simply expressing her opinion, one which I happen to agree with to some extent, and one which is the opposite of yours. You really need to stop being so pig headed and ignorant and start listening to real people who have healthy, happy lives being vegan and vegetarian. There are huge numbers of us, and we are all intelligent, healthy and happy. It's such a shame you'd rather use your considerable intelligence to think up stories and questions to incite hatred and extremist responses.

Visit a real source of information at http://www.animalaid.org.uk and see why vegans feel the way they do about meat eaters.

Are you an accessory to murder - no, because the term murder is specific to the killing of one human by another. Are you an accessory to the cruel, unnecessary and barbaric death of one of God's creatures, yes, you are but if you can live with that, that's okay, but I for one can't and I don't feel I should have to just because someone feels threatened by my diet choice.

ok. i think that the balance w/ animals are just fine. if everyone turned into vegetarians. we'd be like... run over by animals. But a little more vegetarians wont hurt. I cant give up meat, i just dont eat alot. And plus, if you dont eat meat you dont get as much proteins. =] But, i cant stand watching an animal get slaughtered. it's too much =( SO, no.. i dont think your an accessory to murder

All veggies and vegans suffer from the same illusion that being:

If we we all stopped eating meat then thousands of farm animals would not have to be killed and could live a long and happy life munching grass and doing whatever else it is they get up to.

Why is this an illusion? Because if we did not eat meat THERE WOULD BE NO FARM ANIMALS....for who would go to the expense of keeping and feeding the beasties if not to eat at the end of it all?

The most numerous bird in the UK, and indeed the most successful bird on the planet is.....the chicken..for it can be found in large numbers and every continent...and WHY...because we eat it. No eats...No chickens.

Likewise; there are more sheep in New Zealand than people....why..beacuse we eat them.

The very worst this that could happen to farm animals is that we all become veggies for.....No eats No cows, No sheep, No ducks, No turkeys etc etc etc...

Are vegans making sure that the plants they eat have died of natural causes? It could easily be argued that they're also accessories to murder if they're taking these defenseless plants' lives prematurely.
