Honestly as an EMT it sounds to me that you may have Angina. Angina is caused by a disrythmia* (An irregular heart beat) It is a typical problem faced by people with heart problems, it is characterized by pain in the chest but the pain is localized and does not radiate, a heart attack on the other hand causes the pain to go down your left arm or up into your jaw. Your pulse would be elevated you would be nauseous dizzy and sweaty.

I would have your doctor call for an EKG on you and possibly put you on Nitro pills. Nitro pills may help to relieve the pain in your chest.

See ya

Absolutely nothing to worry about. Stabbing pains in ribs are probably muscle related. Chronic or acute heart problems do not usually present as stabbing pains; pain is generally described as a dull, crushing ache like a tight band or belt around the chest. Palpitations are very easy to describe...you get a fluttering sensation just behind your breast bone (right in the the centre of your chest) and ocassionally it feels like your heart is doing a double 'thump' or missing a beat and doing an extra hard 'thump'. The more you think and worry about this, the more you are aware of your heart and it feels odd. If you are really worried, and you mum has a history of heart trouble it might be worth getting it looked at, and they might ask you to wear a holter monitor for 24 hours.

I recommend going to the ER. With a heart attack, timely treatment is essential to prevent further damage to the heart. Take 325mg of aspiring right now, and head to the ER.

As someone above mentioned, if this is angina, then you're ok. However, if this chest pain is different from your usual anginal chest pain, it may be what is called "unstable angina" and be a heralding sign of impending heart attack. You need to go to the ER. Forget seeing your fmaily physician, there is no time for that if this is a heart attack. If you are having a heart attack, the family physician will simply send you to the ER anyway.

Go to Emergency room. It might be a panic attack, but with your history you might want to check real good.
