Uncle Bill's Sweet and Sour Sauce
INGREDIENTS
1 cup distilled white vinegar
1 cup white sugar
1/2 cup frozen pineapple juice concentrate
2 teaspoons monosodium glutamate (MSG)
1/2 cup ketchup
4 teaspoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
3 drops red food coloring
1/4 cup water
2 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
DIRECTIONS
In a medium skillet combine the vinegar and sugar and bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Add pineapple juice concentrate, monosodium glutamate, ketchup, soy sauce, seasoning salt and garlic powder and bring to a boil. Stir until well blended. Add red food coloring.
Meanwhile, in a cup mix together water and cornstarch until fully dissolved. While sauce is boiling, add cornstarch mixture slowly, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens slightly. Do not add mixture all at once as the sauce could get too thick. Use only enough cornstarch to thicken to your desired consistency. When desired consistency is reached, voila! The sauce is ready!

Try this, my own recipe:-
-1/2 of an onion - diced
- 3 cloves of garlic - diced
- 1 tomato - diced
- 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder
- 4-5 table spoon of tomato ketchup
- some water
- some oil for frying
- sugar and salt to taste
Heat the saucepan (medium heat) and fry the onion and garlic until you can smell the aroma (don't overfry it and burn it). Then add the diced tomatoes and mis it with the onion and garlic, until it's a little bit soft. Then add the tomato ketchup and chili powder, mix them well. Add the water and let it simmer for 3 minutes. Add some sugar and salt to taste. Hope that helps!

The best I know is use some savoury, i.e. onions or garlic with a rich meat sauce and tinned pineapples including the juice with a little seasoning. let it go down on simmer until it boils off the juices and serve it. The meat sauce can be anything including gravy granuales.

Years ago, a friend told me to mix apricot jam with white vinegar, and that works quite well. Sorry I don't have proportions; we just eyeball it until we have a consistency and flavor we like.
Hope that helps!
