My sunday school class is having an am Christmas party at church this coming sunday and we are each to bring our "favorite" Christmas treat to share with everyone. First problem is, I don't have a favorite 'treat'. Plus, I am assuming that they expect something sweet. Second problem is that I HATE having something sweet to eat for breakfast or early in the morning. What can I buy or fix that would not seem like I was trying to out do the others in the class. I'd like to have something healthy, but yet nothing messy.

I agree with you that usually this type of thing has too much sweet stuff, especially with a Christmas theme. If I was in your position, I'd bring some bagels and cream cheese. Most cities have some bagel shop like Einstein Brothers, or Panera, or even at some Starbucks. A box of bagels and some containers of cream cheese (I'd take both plain and some flavored like strawberry) would be all you need.

Nobody will complain that it wasn't "Christmas" enough. It is simple enough that it won't look like you are trying to out do Aunt Millie's Secret Christmas Fudge.

Cheesy Ham and Bananna casserole by PAULA DEEN

Recipe Summary
Difficulty: Easy
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Yield: 9 servings

Butter
12 slices white bread
8 large slices deli ham
4 bananas, sliced on the bias
2 cups shredded Cheddar
2 cups crushed potato chips
6 slices cooked and crumbled bacon
4 large eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup cream
Pinch freshly grated nutmeg
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Butter a 9 by 13 glass baking dish. Butter both sides of the bread and layer 6 of them into the bottom of the baking dish, overlapping them as necessary but keep them even. Layer the slices of ham on top of the bread and then the bananas, 6 more slices of bread, then the cheese, potato chips, and bacon. In a separate bowl, beat together the eggs, milk, cream, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Pour this over the casserole almost to the top. Bake for 45 minutes until brown and bubbly. Cut into squares and remove with a spatula, like lasagna.

Sausage Balls #2

Ingredients

(6 servings)

1 lb Sausage meat
2 c Bisquick powder
2 c Cheddar cheese


Instructions

Grate the cheese and allow it to come to room temperature (or grate it at room temperature). Mix (by hand, or with a fork or spoon) with the Bisquick powder and the sausage meat (crumbled). Form into bite-sized balls, around 3/4" in diameter. Cook on foil or a baking pan at 325 F for about 20 minutes.
I think I was also told that these store very well, but I'm not positive about that.

Bacon and Cheese Breakfast Pizza

1 9" single-crust pastry
1/2 pound Bacon; cook -- crumble
8 ounces Swiss cheese -- shredded
4 Eggs
12 ounces Sour cream
2 tablespoons Fresh parsley -- chopped

Roll pastry to fit into a 12" pizza pan. Bake at 425~ for 5 minutes.
Sprinkle bacon and cheese evenly over crust. In a bowl, beat eggs, sour
cream and parsley until smooth;
pour over pizza. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until pizza is
puffy and lightly browned. Yield 6 main-dish or 18 appetizer servings.

Bake a quiche.....take a pie crust from the freezer section of the grocery, fill with shredded cheese (swiss). If you want meat put in either cubed up ham (you can buy cubed already in the lunchmeat section) or crumbled cooked bacon. Mix 2 eggs in 1 cup of 1/2 and 1/2 and add a pinch of nutmeg, salt and pepper. Bake in 350 degree oven until a knife or toothpick comes out clean when poked in the center. Cool before taking. I like this one because if you cool the quiche it is easy to slice into 'pie' slabs, is easy to eat and tastes great....plus it is not standard breakfast food!

I think fruit is definitely a good way to go. You could either bring whole fruits like grapes, strawberries and bananas or you could bring a cut up fruit salad. You could mix together or buy some fruit dips to go with everything as well and offer peanut butter spread (for protein) on the side with some granola. Low fat flavored yogurt is also excellent to use as a dip. Fruit skewers are also cute for the kids with the dipping sauces. Good luck & hope you have fun!

First of all, you sound like a spoiled rotten little brat.

Just kidding.

The dish you bring isn't for you to eat so bring something you think every one else will enjoy. The point is to please other people, not yourself. You are supposed to try out their dishes. That is the point of every one bringing something different. You seem to think everyone else will enjoy something sweet to eat so that is exactly what you should bring.

I was serious about not eating the food you bring, If you do, you will look very lame and kind of piggy.

Make cinnamon rolls, you control the amount of sugar - and everyone loves them ! Make a Fruit Compote - use dried prunes, dried apricots, can of pears drained, canned peaches drained, and mix with a can of cherry pie filling and a dash of almond extract, bake til bubbly .. yum.
