My last one was 124 and 5.8. Yours is pretty high. If the second test confirms the first, you need to check out my diabetes info webpage:
http://www.geocities.com/seabulls69/Type_II_Diabetes.html
It's a free geocities site and the bandwidth is limited, so you may have to try a few times throughout the day before it comes through. I'm too cheap to start a full blown commercial site. Besides, if it was a commercial site, I couldn't post it here without getting spam and advertisement violations (which I do anyway).

IF THESE READINGS ARE CORRECT. THEN YOU IN FACT HAVE DIABETES.
257 is a abnormally high reading. A maximum normal reading is 140. the 9.3 hemoglobin or A1C level is approximately 30% higher than the maximum normal level of 7.
Recommend you get a second test immediately, and if the glucose reading exceeds 140 at a fasting level then you do have diabetes.
the 9.3 reading is the measurement over time that is contained in your body.
I'm a Diabetic going on 5 years now. My A1C levels have come down from a 10.8 to a 9.3 and my daily average glucose is 167.
I take Metformin and glipizide pills daily and get as much exercise as possible to keep my levels in check. Also, have to watch closely the amount and types of food that i eat.
A fasting reading of 257 is way way bad, consider that after you eat something those levels could climb by one or two hundred.
You are a walking time bomb for stroke or heart attack if these numbers continue to be this high.

Is that 9.3 a hemoglobin, or a hemoglobin A1c level? Because if it's the latter, then this is not happening all of the sudden, it's been there a while, and though you should in any case repeat the test as soon as possible, it's likely that it will be positive again. If it's a hemoglobin level, then you're also anemic and that should be worked up seperately from the diabetes.

High glucose is a function of the pancreas, which makes inuslin to regulate blood sugar. If this is the first time you are seeing a glucose problem, then you have adult onset diabetes which can often be managed by diet and exercise.
Low hemoglobin is not necessarily related to the glucose problem UNLESS your diet is very poor. Low hemoglobin can be caused by many things including B-12 or pernicious anemia, low iron consumptoin or absorption, or a bone marrow condition.
You are wise to have another test. In the mean time, learn to eat a very healthy diet and get back to exercise. Try taking a look at www.webmd.com. The site is reliable and searchable.

I'm gonna ask again: is it hemoglobin or hemoglobin A1c (the percentage of hemoglobin that is covered with sugar)
if it's A1C it's high, but it's concordant with your fasting glucose value.
A1c level can rise during 4 months, if you say it was normal 4 months ago.
If it's just hemoglobin, then it's low. Yes you could expect some symptoms if the drop was sudden.
Anyways, ask your doctor again, if it's A1C you should be on a diabetes treatment and if it's total hemoglobin you should undergo further tests to establish the cause of anemia and the proper treatment.
take care and keep us posted

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.
Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!
I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Surprise! if you wanna call high blood sugar test results a surprise. Your fasting glucose measure is way too high for comfort. Are you sure you did not have any carbs of any kind in the last 12hrs. before your testing? And if your A1C blood test result was 9.3 you are definately a candidate for diabetes mellitus. For peace of mind check it out from another lab. You'll need a referral from a doctor so be prepared. Good ruck.

well symptoms of anemia ( low hemoglobin ) dont show till they fall to 6- 8 in 60% cases
u need to get a glucose tolerance test done
and diabetes need not always arise in offsprings of diabetics
or maybe your paents were lucky not to manifest diabetes
and these things dont happen suddenly
its just that body has amazing power to compensate
so you didnt experience a thing
a reexamination at a different lab is a good idea
it will at least satisfy u ven if he results are suggestive again
my concern is that while anemia is easily yreatable diabetes is not
and it gives patients a difficult time
i sincerely hope that your reports were faulty
best of luck

Hemoglobin is fine, just a little low......Blood Sugar is high, and you probably have developed Type II Diabetes which can happen even if there is no family history...Are you overweight? Do you eat a lot of carbohydrates, or concentrated sugars? It's good you are going for a second check...but you will have to probably change your diet, and start on medication....Good Luck
