you walk right up to the person, you tell them you are sorry for doing what you did, you tell them what you are sorry for, specifically and then you listen to them and give them a chance to express how they feel about your actions and your apology;
you simply get it done and you don't expect forgiveness; you just hope for it but cannot resent it if it isn't felt by the other whom you offended
