Eat more regularly. It's far better to 'graze' and eat every three or four hours or so than to eat larger meals with more time in between them. I eat at 7, 10, 1pm, 4pm and 7.30pm, and a small snack at about 10.30. It keeps my blood sugar constantly regulated so I never feel hungry. Having said all that, it's most important that you eat good nutritious food, rather than fast food and processed sugars, if you want to be slim and healthy.

Keep it out of sight or in a difficult to reach cupboard, or even better, don't have any junk food in the house.

If you must pick, then find relatively healthy alternatives eg rice cakes which give you something to chew on but don't cost you much in terms of calories.

Good luck!

Follow a Low Glyceamic Load eating plan (such as Patrick Holford) which release glucose slowly into your blood stream and you will not have the desire to pick

Drink water instead. It's more than likely a habit rather than actual hunger that is making you snack. If you drink water instead, your stomach will have something in it, your hands will have something to hold and your mouth will have something to put in it.
Bordom is also a big reason for munching, find something to do, don't sit at the computer or infront of the tv. I have a mountain of laundry you could fold for me if you need something to do :)
