Go right ahead, do whatever makes you feel good. As for me, I worked hard for what I have, and I'm going to enjoy it.

Won't work! We like things the way they are, that's why Christmas is what it is. If we cut back and saved some of the money we normally spend, we'll spend it on ourselves later. I earn the money I spend by having a job that provides my income.
If you're driven to save money and give it to the poor, I'm sure there's always room for another charitable do-gooder, but the reality is that many people choose to be poor and welfare makes it easy to stay dependent. If they'd get up in the morning and try to find a job, they'd eventually get one that pays them more that welfare does. That way, we'd all save money ... how 'bout that idea?

We donate to charity's all year long. We give to the salvation army in November and December. We also pick names off of the Christmas trees at Target, Wal-mart etc.. to buy a gift for a needy child. We also buy extra food for the food donation boxes that are in every store for the poor and needy.
Having said that my Husband and I both work very hard in our careers, we struggled to be were we are, we gave up a lot, and did with out until we got were we are. I have seen to many adults who would rather set back and collect welfare and let other people pay for their children's Christmas, instead of looking for jobs or going to school to get the education and or higher education. needed to seek employment so that they can support their own families.
I am all for charity. But I have 3 children and I am not going to have them do with out Christmas so that we can give to others.

Perhaps the poor and needy need to save some money. They're not totally useless. Many are capable of working and earning a living. They need to re-organize their priorities and stop feeding their 'feel good now' mentalities.

We make an effort to do both. We usually "adopt a family" or two every Christmas in our area, support Christmas baskets, help serve Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
In the last couple of years, we have started including Samaritan's Purse donations of "soccer balls for Latin America" and "dairy goats for a village", etc in our family Christmas cards, etc. It's a pretty cool way to give gifts.
Having said all that, we still take time to have a really cool Christmas morning set up for our little girls. They need to experience an awesome holiday, too!

Millions of middle class and wealthy people in the USA give lots everyday to help the poor. Let them have Christmas.
