My son got sick yesterday and I took care of him all day. I kept him in bed he had soup and everything. His cousins came over and I said hes got to rest. His uncle ask if he wanted to play, he said, "my daddy said I have to rest, I cant go play".
Then I get a phone call from my girlfiend and she said "my mom called and complained that I wouldnt let him play downstairs with his cousins".
Was this wrong of me not to let him play? I thought I was doing the right thing.

Sounds like you need to speak directly to your girlfriend about why she did not stand up to her brother and mother. She could have squashed this without you ever knowing about it, but she did not. She knew the child was sick and why you had him in bed. She sounds a little weak.

No, you did that right thing. Your son was sick, letting him go out and run around with is cousins is double balded sword. One he may become even more ill because his body had to reroute energy so that he could play, and not focus on the invasion in his body. Two his cousin could have caught the same illness from him. So it was the smart idea to let him rest all day, and not let him go out with his cousins.

Depends how sick and infectios he was. Most kids can play a bit and roam the house while they are ill. Keeping him in bed was probably overdoing it but not wrong.
Keeping him from his cousins was only the right thing to do. Does your girlfriend's mom want your son infecting EVERYBODY?
Stick to your guns. You did good.

No, it is not wrong at all. If he is sick he does not need to be around other children for one thing. You wouldn't want them getting sick, then who would they blame? Another thing is, if he is sick, he needs all the rest he can get so he can get better.

You are just looking out for your son and his cousins and there is nothing wrong with that.

Look, don't listen to that one guy who says your girlfriend should be your wife. He doesn't know your situation. Everyones situation is different.

Heck no! I'm not a parent myself and I could tell you that. It is best if a child doesnt play while they are sick because it wasts the energy the body needs to get better. If they do they will be sick longer, or their illness could develope to something worse. You made the right choice.

Depending on what he was sick with and whether or not he was contagious, you did absolutely the right thing.

There are some illnesses--or people who respond to illness in a way--where bed rest or very low-key activity (reading, puzzles, etc.) is very important. It gives the body time to re-charge and to heal itself.

No need to doubt yourself here.

You did absolutely nothing wrong!!!!!!!!!!

You asked him not to play because he wasn't feeling well! You should have explained that to your Girlfriend/ Mother in Law/ Girlfriend's brother, whoever makes that a big deal!

He's your son and you're doing what you think is right for him!

P.S: you sound like a very good father to me!

you did the right thing, I am not sure why everyone else is having such a problem with it, if your son was sick then he needed his rest. Way to go...You made the right choice and dont let them make you think otherwise.

I agree with you if I was in your situation to take the kid.
But sometime, some kid can play but we need to look out and let he play just for a short time.

Be yourself and reasonable man. You do nothing wrong.
You do whatever all dad should do.
