Apparently scientists have found that obese people (and mice) have an increase of one type of bacteria in the GI and a lower amount of another type of bacteria in the GI. Skinnier people had the inverse amounts. Apparently the bacteria causes a person to take in more calories from the same product...that explains all the skinny people I know who eat like truck drivers, I could never figure that out!!! I have to work very hard to keep my weight how I like it, and to think...it was bacteria all along....

What are your thoughts on this?

I always thought it was a metabolism thing. But if it's the bacteria, how do you explain the people who start out skinny and eat all the time, then suddenly one day start gaining weight and become obese from eating less than they used to. Do their bacteria change? Just wondering. Either way, I think it's a fascinating theory. Thank you for sharing!

It's an interesting study and an interesting result, but this doesn't mean that obesity is the result of this one factor. With advancing technology, more resources, and more accurate results, the realm of research is so vast and it is becomes harder each day to apply results to everyday life. Now, instead of explaining obesity by simple overeating, it's now genetic, bacterial, or something else. Regardless, more discoveries and more knowledge make for a more interesting existence.

I think it's total BS just another way for a chemical corporation to get tax dollars to fund a new "study" and to get people to take more useless pills. 20 years from now they'll say "gee, I guess we were wrong about that. (after the side effects of their drugs start showing up)

another excuse people will try to tell themselves. Bottom line is we need to get off our butts and start doing something about it.
