It depends on what type of cancer is being treated. Brain cancer as apposed to lung cancer require different treatment and doses. Some carcinomas can be surgically removed whereas others can only be treated with radiation. Within the next ten years people with cancer will not have to undergo radiation. It is not only painful after the fact but is also, as your probably know, hard on the person receiving it in every way.
