the camera is canon powershot a520, the thing that covers the lens when u turn it off wont close, it stays open now, is there some way i can fix it or is it broken?
i dropped the camera but it seemed fine after that.
it looks like the cap has split, and i tried to push it to the side but it hasnt worked, now i cant even see the sides that close together.
is there some way that you can buy a new lens cover for the camera canon powershot a520?

would it matter if i just left it without the cover? its not my camera, my parents, but would it really matter if there wasnt a lens cap?

If it still takes pictures, then just continue to use it without the lens cover. If the lens gets dirty, you can always wipe it carefully with a soft cloth or lens cleaning microfiber cloth.
The Powershot 520 would probably not be worth getting fixed.

It sounds like you're lucky it was just the lens cover that froze, and that you could still take pics with it!

Here's a little instruction guide for disassembling a powershot. The intended purpose is to fix an e-18 error (where the zoom mechansim is frozen), so it's not entirely suited to your example. But if you want to get into your camera and fiddle, it at least gives you some idea where parts go (which may totally differ from your model). If you're mechically inclined, and want to try...hey...more power to you!

If you are a camera repair person, electronic technicain and plastic injection molder, by all means fix it yourself! Get an estimate otherwise.
