I do circuit training one evening a week and finish around 9.30pm but can never sleep properly that night no matter how tired I am. I have tried drinking lots of fluid, cooling down, eating, not eating but nothing seems to help!

I find this a prob too, it takes me two or three hours to come-down from the exercise high. I chatted with the staff at the gym and they showed me some stretches that help to relax the body - of course, then I still have to drive home! So, I do them when i get back.
Worth chatting with gym trainer about it, as sleeping tablets not going to help you in long run (pardon the pun!)
Hope sleep better tonight

It's often called the Runners High - the endorphins that your body releases after exertion - problem is, with finishing that late at night, your body will be dumping adrenaline into your system in case you ask it to do anything else strenuous at night! A set routine may well help, it would establish a more beneficial sleep pattern, but the first week or two of getting into the pattern might be pretty tough.

Its because you have no routine. For your body to adapt, you need to train at least 3 times a week, otherwise its just a shock to the system- esp an all out circuit training session! Dont over-do it man, exercise ever other day. Nutritional shakes may help you after an intense workout, remember your muscles also repair in your sleep, so be sure to feed them- i.e you could have a complex carb / protein shake after training and just chill for an hour before you go to bed. Personally I take my dog for a walk after an intense session then check my emails before going to sleep

Good luck and Merry Xmas!

This is a problem that alot of people have when they train late on the evening/night!

training that late just seems to wake you up, probably the Adrenalin thats released while exercising hard!

try to train earlier, this may be the only way, other than relying on a sleeping tab!
and always make sure you'r full, or at least not hungry befor you retire, because if your hungry you wont sleep!

This is because your adrenaline level is high after vigorous exercise. You just have to make the necessary adjustments to get your much needed sleep. Or you can just anticipate that night-anyway it's only once aweek.

Alot of people that exercise at night have the same problem. I think it has something to do with your endorphins. The only suggestion I have is to do your circuit training at a different time in the day. Can you do it in the morning? Or try mid-afternoon.

exercise is best done in the morning, as ur metobolism works better early morn. but that dose'nt suit everyone, so u should try to do less exercise more often, such as 30 mins 3 times a week, and then build it up.
