Isn't a convocation ceremony just another name for a graduation ceremony?

basically, Convocation is this thing that's mandatory for all freshman and transfer students at a university. The Chancellor comes, and a bunch of people talk about what it's like to go to college, why you should take advantage of the time you have, yada yada yada. It's basically a "welcome to the university, you're officially a student here now" thing. The students just sit there and listen LOL
