It says he will be called Immanuel, or God with us (and scripture specifically says it means "God with us". In the Gospel of Matthew it actually says the angel commanded that the boy be named Jesus because he will "save the people from their sins" (since Jesus is the Greek name meaning savior).
There's a difference between being "called" Immanuel and being "named" Immanuel.

That's a good question. Lemme explain...
Jesus being called "Immanuel" was a prophecy concerning Jesus. This prophecy is mentioned in Matthew (Matthew 1:23) and is first referenced in Isaiah 7:14. "Immanuel" means "God is With Us" in Hebrew. It refers to the fact that God Almighty was turning His attention to His chosen people, Israel.
Isaiah 9:6, 7 similarly refers to Jesus as being called by a name. It says that "his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace." Of course Jesus was not literally named these things, however these names foreshadowed the role that the Christ would have in the future. In the same way, Jesus being called "Immanuel" would reassure that God would be with his people.
So, in a nutshell, when the Bible says the Chirst will be called "Immanuel", it isn't referring to his literal name, but rather to the role the Christ would have in bringing honest-hearted individuals back to God.
Jesus Christ is the only person in history to fullfill the reliable prophecies in the Bible. His teachings alone prove that he was the son of God. We can trust that Jesus Christ is the promised savior. We should learn about him and do our upmost to live in accord with his teachings. After all, that is where true happiness lies.

There are many names for God. The word Immanuel is a title. It means: God with us. Jesus is also known as the Word of God, Lamb of God, Son of God.
The word "Christ" means: anointed one. Jesus means savior. Jesus is considered the Christ because he fulfilled over 300 prophesies of the Old Testament about the Messiah. There is a good cd about this called IT IS WRITTEN by Bob Fishman. He is a converted Jew to Protestantism and then Catholicism. His conversion was in an attempt to discredit Jesus as the Christ or Messiah.
I like your question. You got 2 thumbs down and I can't figure why on a sincere question. So, I gave your question a thumbs up. It's not right to give a thumbs down on a good sincere question.

Isaiah said that the Messiah will be known or called "Immanuel," which means "God with us." In Hebrew prophecy, "names" indicated are often to be understood as "signs." Jesus Messiah is the sign that God is in solidarity with humanity (God with us - not against us).

He changed his name. So what? He's God. He can do more than that. You should look into it.
