Something sickly by the sound of it! I do remember it too, and I think it was a fudge cake.

I would think the recipe would be oat biscuits (ie HobNobs) crushed and mixed with melted butter. Pack it well into a cake tin with a removeable base. A tin of evaporated milk melted and mixed with chocolate and this would be poured into the cake tin and allowed to set.
Using a cheese grater shave the chocolate (dark is best).

Millionaire shortbread.

Mix crushed digestive biscuits and melted butter and press into a tin leave to set.
Boil up a tin of condensed milk[unopened] for about 11/2 hours in a pan of water. When its cooled spread onto the biscuit base and when this has cooled ,cover with melted chocolate.
leave to set and cut into squares/
