here in the Philippines it means "mutual understanding". Local culture implies that during courtship, in order for a couple to go steady each one of them must confirm to each other that "they are going steady". Sometimes a friendly relationship between two people grows but none of them would like to confirm to each other that they are going steady due to fear of being rejected(or any particular reason). In this case they are contented in doing stuffs most couple does but without the declared commitment. Then it is said they have a "Mutual Understanding(MU)"
