Yeah, sometimes I wonder if people are supposed to wake up feeling bright-eyed and bushy-tailed! But once in a while, I do, and it feels great!

First, have an annual check-up to rule out any healthy problems.

Second, get some exercise at least four hours before bed. This will help you fall asleep, and it will get the blood moving so your body is cleansed.

Third, eat well, but not too much. Make sure you get enough to drink during the day.

Fourth, check out your bed and sleeping habits. Is it comfy, dark and the right temperature? Are you sleeping on your back, yet plagued with snoring and stuff like that? Is your pillow supporting you properly, or is it just there? You can get extra pillows (or folded blankets) to support your arms and legs.

Fifth, relax before sleeping. You could try the yoga technique of nidra, but if you have a lot of body-work to do, this might actually make you more tired at first.

Sixth, get the proper amount of sleep for you. Wake up naturally.

If you regularly overeat, it may take a few days for your stomach to reset to "hunger" mode. And a lot of people need 30 to 60 minutes of "up" time before they get hungry. Just do your best, do some light stretches and MAYBE drink some water when you get up (it makes my stomach hurt, but many people swear by it). And have something to look forward to when you wake up!

One last thing -- if depression might be a problem, read up on it and do what you can.
