He has been already sent a notice why he should not be prosecuted for the offence of perjury & if the High Court of Delhi found his case fit for prosecution he will face a trial for the offence of perjury & if found guilty he can be punished with imprisonment or fine or both under sec 193 of the Indian Penal Act.

shyan di it cause of fear of jail.he didn't help her neither did anything to help her get justice .these kind of people are just interested in making own money .he shouldn't even get a trial in court .because of his lie the case stretched on and on.He was very scared when he came to court that day. When a person of his level changes his statement it does not surprise me. Maybe he was under threat or under inducement.i was shocked to see him changing his statement.he comes from a well-educated Bengali family. He is educated and had known Jessica. In fact, he was working with her as a bartender on that day. i thought he would say -- 'I am not sure', etc. But what he said was shocking. It looked as if he was a defence witness. i don't want him hanged but some kind of action has to be taken.

You are quit right.People like Shayan is like chameleon. But threat factor beside bribe should be taken into consideration before awarding imprisonment.
