My Crush... My Friend: How can I attract a guy's attention?

I knew the guy from college because he was my ex's friend.Now we both graduated and again we met in a class we are both attending that's when I was dumped by my bf and started telling my college friend about all that has been bothering me.He stood by me until I got better.Now I developed a crush on the guy.I think he enjoys talking to me but I am clueless what to do.He has had a crush on this girl for 4 years (he said not telling her so was a long story) and now the girl has a bf. In the class, I completely stopped talking to him, looking in his direction or smiling back (way too embaressing for me). A few days ago i gave a wrong answer in the class,2 guys and a girl laughed at me,he asked them not to.He's a real gentleman and its difficult for me to guess if he's nice or it's more than that.The last time i called him on the phone we flirted twice,after the first time he mentioned my ex's name and after the second time we hung up because it was getting late.What should I do?

Yesterday I looked extremely nice(got whistled@in the street&some guy kindda approached me)not trashy ofcourse.I told some of my friends that I was trying to feel better because the 25th is my ex's bd&i want to feel good about myself,the truth is that I wanted to look good in my class infront of the guy I have a crush on.I was getting a haircut so I thought why not the day i have the course so that the guy would see me(I was v worried that he wouldn't come but he did).Some guy in the class teased me when he saw me,no girl commented(one of them I think likes my crush)and my cush/guy friend also didn't comment but the other guys were super nice to me (they always are nice).I talked to him during the break&passed a note to talk to him after class&I also called him on the phone afterwards but I was so shy to make eye contact/flirt.I told him about bd&me not being there was bothering me.Then I switched the topic so that we'd talk about ourselves.I'm afraid,what if he rejects me?

You are old enough to learn to take life choices and deal with them. Start by talking to this guy and telling HIM your problem. ("I am developing a crush on you" or "I'm finding that I don't know how to act around you because you are/were a friend of my exBF").

In any case keep it real. Be open and honest, but stop avoiding him, especially if you find yourself attracted to him. Do not be concerned if he has had a crush on someone else. He might feel uncomfortable knowing your Ex. These are side issues that you might want to talk about sometime, but right now you need to let him know that you are attracted to him and allow him to express how he feels about you.

Find an excuse to talk over a cup of coffee or a soda. You do not need a prepared speech. Just let him know that you want to get to know him and allow him to get to know you. Make it real.
