I live in the northeast and here in the winter, the birds wake up at about 6:00-6:30 AM. In the summer when the birds return from migration, they start chirping as early as 4:20-4:30AM. I'm a night owl myself so I'm awake to hear them when they start their day. Cardinals are always the last bird I see every night at the bird feeder in my yard. In the winter the go in at about 5:00 PM. In the middle of summer they stop coming to the feeder as late as 8:30-8:45. They stay out until just before its dark out. I hope this answers your question!!! :)

Depending on the species birds sleep from 8-12 hours a day. They wake up as the sun rises unless they are pets and have covered cages. Have a tweet Christmas.

I don't know anything about wild birds...but, with captive parrots, I can probably help.
Some experts will tell you that birds need 12 uninterupted hours of sleep. I say that's impossible in my household, and my birds are fine and relatively well adjusted.
I don't go to bed until usually really late. Rio's cage is right next to my computer, so while he's usually keeping an eye on me, he'll nap when he needs to. I would say he gets about 4 hours of uninterupted sleep a night, plus another 2 after my husband goes to work, and then, on and off during the day he naps.
And, yep...he actually snores. LOL

Depends on the species of bird. Some are active only during daylight hours. But there are birds here in Thailand that are active at night. They are particularly annoying, singing all night while WE are trying to sleep!! :-)

If you're asking about the wild birds outside, most species head back to the nest around dark(dusk) and are back at it at dawn. My parrots have adapted my lifestyle, so if I stay up till 2 or 3 in the morning, they do to. They will tuck their heads while on my shoulder, but almost always have one eye open, and are constantly aware of what is going on!! I work part-time in a club, and Merlin (my Amazon), will start getting sleepy around 12 or 1 a.m. and tuck his shoulder between my neck and my shirt collar, but when I talk to someone he will stick his head up and say HELLO, then tuck it back in. The next day he sleeps late just like me, and if I take a nap he climbs up on the couch, lays on his back on my chest, and takes a nap too. As for wild birds, I have never been as involved as with my companion parrot, but I know they have to be even more aware of their environment, and the possible dangers to them, so they probably sleep with one eye open too--Birdman

My African Grey sleeps about 12 hours. I put her to bed at 7:00pm and she gets up at 7:00am.

I awaken in the past the birds. between the little satisfied indulgences of my morning is to hearken to their song at sunrise and watch them flock to the vast tree on the backside of my backyard.
