Nature has tremendous mechanisms to limit the consumption and hence the food limit will not be reached..

I shall tell you a finding I read 25 years ago in Natural Geographic or some other journal...

A study of population trend in forest anilmals had reportedly revealed an interesting dynamics of nature... There was a negative relationship between the population of stags and lions (or tigers, I could not recollect - the predator anyway) studied over a period...

It was ultimately found that the increase in the predator population caused reduction in the stags population which reduced the per capita food available (that is, the protein supply according to the authors). This correlated with the predators begetting more males and less females thus reducing the predator population over time (since only females can produce cubs).. then the stag population increased due less predators preying on them and the predators had more food and produced more females... and so on

I dont know if this phenomenon works with other forms of life... but threre may be other mechanisms like what the Malthus foresaw in his theory of impact of human population explosion... which we had however thwarted with improved techniques in agriculture - for the present!

A dog will always break the food limit vs.a cat. I have witnessed a pack of young pups devour a cage full of homing pigeons. The dogs were so full they could not squeeze out of the wire cage where they broke in. There were birds still in the cage not completely eaten. I wished you could of been there to see what my dad did next. of. On the other hand I have not ever seen a cat bloat itself to immobility. Another eclectic question. Next.
