I do this all the time and it is awesome... put gobs (and I mean GOBS) of Vaseline on your hands. You want your hands to be coated in Vaseline, not rubbed in like a lotion. You need them totally coated. Then cover them with 100% cotton socks (you will obviously need help with that part if you don't want it to be super messy). Sleep with the socks on all night. By morning your hands will be super soft. You might need to do it a couple nights in a row to get rid of all the cracks, but it will work. Also, Neosporin on the cracks during the day helps them heal a lot faster.

SOAPS
When washing your hands use a PH soap or PH hand wash which will match the PH within your skin and shouldn't dry it out as much as normal soap.
OR
use Dove soap
..........which has added creme within it so its like washing your hands with hand creme and sometimes you don't even need a hand moisturizer because your hand is so nourished after using it
CREMES
Also when using a hand moisturizer use Vaseline intensive care creme, it is very effective,
if that doesn't work then use
...... E45 creme, this is one of the most effective cremes you could possibly use, if you were to go to the Dc they would proscribe you this creme. You can buy this creme anywhere, in the baby section in the supermarket and in any pharmacy.
EXTRAS
Vaseline is good to use, it will help heel cracks in your skin and it does actually speed up the heeling process of cuts etc
But use the Aloe Vera Vaseline, this has added E Vitamin which is very good for skin.

Try a 1/2 & 1/2 mixture of Johnson's Baby Magic Lotion and Baby Vaseline on a daily basis and then once a week, soak your hands for 15 minutes in a 1/2 & 1/2 mixture of warmed Baby Oil and water.

It is common in the winter and it's usually a sign of bad bodily temperature distribution or rapid changes in environment.
Try wearing gloves when you go out, keep warm but don't wrap like an onion. Your body will be trying to balance the temperature and your hands will suffer as your body will try to exhude heat through there.
It also helps if you take your coat off as soon as you enter a closed environment.
To combat the symptoms, any moisturising cream will do but it will take time.

Oh wow i kno the perfect solution...mix olive oil with a few teaspoons of sugar. It makes a really good scrub. The sugar scrubs the dead skin off and the oil makes it really really soft. Wash it with warm water when done, USE A TOWEL TO PAT DRY, i promise u it will make a difference. Scrub for at least 6 or 7 minutes

This sounds girly, but is very effective. Slather your hands, and I mean slather, with a very heavy duty cream like Eucerne, Bag Balm, or Badger Balm. Put clean cotton gloves over them, and then go to bed. Do this every night and it should really help. Good luck.

One of the best things I've found for dry skin is vitamin E cream; it really seems to help things heal very rapidly, and also works on minor burns/sunburn. The kind I use is generic - 10,000 I.U. strength.
One caution - if you have severely dry skin for no apparent reason (i.e., no exposure to dry conditions), consider going to the doctor - extremely dry skin is a symptom of diabetes.

My boyfriend had cracks so deep they went into the flesh and bled and would get infected. The ONLY thing that help was the parrafin wax hand treatments. Most salons and massage parlors have the treatments available or you can buy your own wax warmer and do it anytime.

always put lotion. My mom likes St. Ives, and I heard they are a good brand, with good quality. You kow what? That reminds me, I should put lotion on my hands too! ...But I don't. I'm too stubborn and macho for that.
