I haven't flown since 9/11 and I was wondering if my car keys are ok to keep in my pocket when I fly? Anyone know?

Yes - they are OK.
If they are in your pocket - make sure you take them out and put them in the plastic bin that you put through the security conveyor - along with your shoes and belt and anything else metal.
I usually have mine in my briefcase, and have never had a problem.

no longer an ignition key, yet they DO have keys to the flight deck. As a former upkeep controller, I somewhat have had many activities when I had to get somebody from the backside the place the airplane became at carry the station key out because of the fact the group locked themselves out of the flight deck. commonly it became dealt with properly until now the flight, yet there have been a pair of activities that it befell mutually as loading passengers. If we've been fortunate, the backside people knew the place the main became, and we've been given it unlocked. If the main became misplaced, we could get contract upkeep to tension the lock with a screwdriver. With the upkeep guy there, and the flight deck group maximum surprising at the back of them, no person ever observed what became happening, or they could have been guffawing.

They're OK as long as you don't have a little pocketknife attached to the keyring. Just place the keys into the plastic tray (along with your shoes and belt buckle) when you go thru TSA.
