Au contraire (and I realize that isn't your language) poor people get free medical care at free clinics. Go visit an emergency room some time.

It's us middle class people that wind up getting hurt by the medical system.

Our medical system has its ups and downs. Personally, I think we would all be better off with better preventative medicine, but that may come some day.

We are not a selfish country. You can compare us with any country in the world. But it isn't the government that is most generous--it is the American people--and I like it that way.

In most European countries the medical and welfare systems are excessively generous, and that is causing monumental headaches in illegal immigration and taxation.

I don't think the U.S. is perfect, but I'll take it over most other countries I've visited or lived in.

Why did you move here? Since I'm certain that you will receive plenty of rude responses to this questions, I want you to know that I am not trying to be rude. I understand what you hate about this country. Indeed, it has it's flaws. The American Dream is a fallacy. I agree that this country is very selfish and materialistic. I've lived here all of my life and have seen this. There are decent individuals in this country, but too few and far between. I've had a little too much shiraz tonight to really give you a good answer, but feel free to email me. I'm a little more than half Italian, but haven't the opportunity to visit yet. Just to add on this, an universal health care system in the U. S. could work. Has anyone in this country really noticed how much they pay out in taxes? Yes, we supposedly have this great utopia called capitalism. It isn't though. A culmination of ideas just might. A real and true democracy like some of the European countries (that we are taught to despise) might work. I don't believe that anyone lives in a perfect country, but I'm tired of those ignorant enough to believe that they do. Over and over again, it seems that too many of my fellow Americans fall into that category. Give me all the thumbs down that you want to for speaking the truth.

You have to earn your benefits. The majority of people who don't have health benefits a)didn't finish high school or obtain any sort of job training b) have no marketable skills, c) have a losy work record and attendance problems or d) can't pass a simple pre employment drug screen.

The average person in the USA earns more and has a higher standard of living than the average person in most industrilized nations. Health benefits are available from most employers once you get above the entry level jobs. While door greeter at WalMart or French Fry cooker at McDonalds are good honest jobs the value you add to the company is directly reflected in the level of your benefits.

Its called capitalism. If you want to pay for socialism, go to a socialist country to live. Don't confuse 'right' with 'privilege'. There is a trade-off between the two, and it's not as simple as you make it out to be. And if your poor in the US., you have access to the best insurance available, its called medicaid. The problem in this country is the 'working poor' (lower middle class). Get your facts straight.

art: I hope that you can get back to your country. I love Italy; and your right, it is certainly beautiful. I hope that one day we can have as many deceitful gypsy thieves in our major cities. The point is that every country has its benefits and problems.

Good things cost money. If you are a socialist I recommend moving to a socialist country that will give you cradle to grave care, while only taxing you excessively if you actually begin to make money. That way you can flip burgers during the week and spend the weekends at the hospital for that "pesky hangnail" and get room service;)

The government does not actually make money, it only takes it from others to give to those who do not wish to work for it.

Then Leave if you don't like it. People create there own misery and for the record, poor people and minorities can go to school almost completely paid for in this country. I who have some money can't get **** from the government to go to school. The ghetto's are created bye people who don't care how they live, don't want to further their education, and would rather live off our government. So why in the world should we give them nice housing, if they aren't working for it. You have a ****** up sense of our country. So if you don't like it then leave.

People who don't work and better them selves don't deserve anything. It's not my place to take care of the illegals, and there 12 children. It's not in my place to take care of the kids on welfare. They rape me enough in taxes as is.

If government controlled our healthcare, I can almost guarantee you our survival rate would drop greatly .

Yes, I mean one would think that they could afford to have universal health care- after all, USA is one of the richest countries in the world.

I agree. But my family chose to make me here...what am I to do? My grandparents are from Italy, but came here for a better life...sometimes I think they should have stayed in beautiful Italy...it is like heaven in Italy. Here in America we all want money and fake beauty....it makes me sick.

Yes, I agree. The lack of medical insurance coverage for people in the US is a disgrace.
